Writing songs about the French Foreheads Anime is something that I’ve been doing since I picked up guitar and bass. I thought that the show’s sometimes hard-left turn into dramatic storytelling with Aelita’s entire backstory was interesting enough that we needed some songs out of it, but in the filk community (or from what I could gather from it), I mostly saw serious and funny songs about Star Trek. I don’t want to hear slow jams about Sulu and Chekov – I want to listen to songwriters explore the deeper meanings of TV episodes that occasionally throw in this and that.
This was an attempt at writing a rock opera about Code: Lyoko. It didn’t work out – I’m not really good at writing a song cycle – but I had the cycle thought out for a while and I wanted to try.

I know there’s a weird elf who evades suited wolves with migraines on bass that hold me to where I feel unwell. Two As and Waldo Schaeffer, the famous tactician…they said he said delusions…that his wife’s the only survivor.

What does it mean to be a new human? I know the answer’s in me, so I have to look within.
